Addictions

Addictions

Addictions are distressing and debilitating. They frequently affect whole families when a parent, partner or child becomes addicted to drugs, alcohol, gambling or many other addictive behaviours. Working with addictions is all about accessing the root cause of the problem. Sometimes these addictions may be connected to a deep lack of self worth brought about by abuse, anger or guilt or they are related to difficult unresolved past lives. Certain addictions can just be a habit like smoking (see Smoking Cessation) or eating too much chocolate (see Weight Issues). Or a person can become addicted to something because it ‘runs in the family’ and the addicted person has tapped into the family’s ancestral habits and beliefs such as drinking or smoking too much.

Therapy

People with addictions must be ready to ask for help. No one else can take charge of this situation although a loved one can try and guide the addicted person in the right direction. This can be a frustrating situation for the person watching all of this because of course they would like to help. However no matter how much they themselves want that person to stop harming him or her self the decision to change has to come from the person with the addiction.

I have worked extensively with people with heavy addictions and I have always found that if the person is truly ready to help them self, fantastic results can be achieved in as little as 3-5 sessions.
